Koholint Daydreams

Spring 2014 | 5 week project | Ingredients: Unity, Sketchup, Gameboy, Wiimote

Koholint Daydreams is a virtual reality experience where you explore a deserted island through two different perspectives simultaneously. Players move around the world using a actual gameboy, rewired into a bluetooth controller. By looking at the model gameboy in the oculus rift, they can see the island represented in tiles and spites from “Link’s Awakening”. In this way, a second game within the game blurs the lines between what is real and what is simulation. This project was a collaboration between myself, Daniel Mastretta, and Cullen Paradise for our recursive reality class. We’ll never forget the heartbreak of taking apart an original gameboy, but it made one sweet controller in the end.
